Poca asked:
I have been hiking a lot lately and have just been using my nike running shoes, I have been struggling as I have been getting into steeper terrain, so I am needing a better hiking shoe, will trail running shoes work, or do I have to get hiking shoes?

for running, you don’t want a chunky shoe that you would need for hiking.you want a lightweight, fitting shoe. for hiking, you want a comfortable, protective boot.
Some people use their trail runners even on the steepest and rockiest of ascents. Others insist on a boot for ankle support when the terrain gets tougher. It is a matter of personal preference and discovering what works for you.
Choosing a good boot is important. You want a boot that is light weight but sturdy made. They say for every 1 pound on your feet equals 6 pounds on your back. Also you need to find a boot that fits you well. Some people have narrow feet and some have wider feet. I have a narrow foot and personally I prefer the La Sportiva brand – they hold up well for the tough conditions. Recommend try a few pairs on at your local sporting goods store.
