What do you recommend for a hunting rifle?

im 14 years old i live on a cattle ranch in canada. i have began hunting. i have 2 .22’s and a 12 gauge shotgun. what would you recomend as a high powered hunting rifle? i have narrowed it down to two guns that i can have thru many hour of research. what gun should it be the remington 7mm magnum or a 30-06 of some sort?
well yes i miseed a few key points. i already have a trusty 30-30. and my needs for a riffle are mainly for shiping pests from 300yds+. and for defence from local pests (in september a very close friend of mine was killed by a bear a mile from my house. and i have found cougar and bear tracks within 1000 feet of my house.

Between those two, it really doesn’t matter. The 30-06 has a wider variety of available loads but the 7mm has a little more power. Either one would be good for medium to large game at almost any distance within reason.
Go with whichever rifle you can get at the right time for the right price.
Depends on what your hunting but something else to factor in is that 30-06 ammo is a lot cheaper unless ya doing reloads. 7mm has little more knock down power if ya hunting elk or bear.
If you want a rifle in one of those calibers I recommend the Remington 700 or Savage 110. Both great rifles for the money.
I like the 30-06 the best-its a great all around caliber and its still plentiful and cheaper than 7mm.
man i would look into something like a 270 that what i carry and its never failed…i have a tikka and its got plenty of dropping power.
I have had many hunting rifles over the years and I have to tell you, It is hard to beat a 30-06. Plus you can find ammo anywhere. 30-06 is big and powerful and in the right hands it will easily take out deer at 300 yards and in.
* Your Best choice is a Remington or Savage Brand bolt action rifle in 30-06 Caliber because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from for Hunting Varmints, and Big Game.* Magnums are not needed or necessary to Harvest Big Game in North America.* The 30-06 has earned its name and reputation after making 15 consecutive one-shot kills of American Game.*
I’d go with the 30-06 because of it’s versatility. There are loads that have little 110gr hollow points for varmints, and loads with big ol’ 220 gr bullets for bears and elk. There is also military spec surplus ammo for target shooting, plinking, and home defense that’s still relatively cheap, too.
Get a good bolt-action 30-06 (aka 30 Springfield, 30 Government, 7.62×63) with a 3-9 x 40-50mm scope and it will give you a lifetime of service.
IMO, the .30-’06 would be a better choice. Not because I’m a fanatical fan of the ‘06 but because there are many more different bullet weights and designs available for the .30 caliber than for the 7mm RemMag. recoil is also much lighter for the ‘06.
If your hunting does not consist mainly of 200 yard + shooting, why don’t you give some though to a .30-30 WCF lever-action from Winchester or Marlin, or if you have big bears in your area perhaps a Marlin Model 1895 in .45-70. There is nothing on earth that can’t be take with a good .45-70, and precious few game animals in North America that can’t be take with a .30-30 WCF.
And considering all the anti-gun laws on the books in Canada, you can probably get a .30-30 or .45-70 with fewer problems than you’ll face getting what the gun grabbers consider to be a “long-range telescopically sighted sniper rifle.”

Both of these rifles have quiet about of power and recoil to them. It all depends on what you will be hunting and i would recommend the 30-06 out of the two you choice. I would pick something that will be flatt, not much recoil, and hard hitting for my first big rifle. I would go with a 243. win or 270. win.
the 243. win is amazing and has no recoil and would be great for you.
the 270. win has just a lil less recoil then the 30-06 and its fast, flat and hard hitting, i use one to hunt moose, black bear, coyote, and aother game like whitetail
